In his session, Dr. Inbar shared a case study featuring pipeline leak detection using preexisting buried optical fiber. The presentation explained how leaks were created and measured. Prisma Photonics demonstrated the classification of signal signatures and how, through machine learning, events are qualified to reduce false positive alarms dramatically. The leaks detected were far smaller than the industry standards and act as a new benchmark for the abilities of distributed acoustic fiber sensing (DAS) for pipeline monitoring
