Backend Tech Lead – DLR

Tel Aviv - Israel
Description:

Prisma Photonics, a fast growing start up, transforms infrastructure monitoring by leveraging optical fibers to monitor critical, large-scale systems like power grids and oil & gas pipelines across thousands of kilometers without the need for traditional sensors.

Our Hyper-Scan Fiber-Sensing™ technology, combined with advanced machine learning, empowers utility operators to achieve environmental and renewable energy goals while maintaining operational excellence on their path to net-zero emissions.

Founded in 2017, with offices in the U.S., Europe, and Israel (HQ), Prisma Photonics is led by an expert team with a proven track record in building and scaling successful companies within the lasers and deep-tech sectors.

We are seeking a Backend Tech Lead which will be responsible for leading the strategic domain of Dynamic Line Rating (DLR), bringing massive real-world value to our customers in the power industry.

The scope of the position includes many SW components and APIs; compute-heavy logic, data/ML pipelines, databases, monitoring dashboards, and various integrations and reporting tools. You will be key in re-designing an existing complex system to a modern cloud-native design, integrating it into other systems, and adapting it to support both cloud and on-premises deployments.

What is Dynamic Line Rating (DLR)?

Prisma utilizes state-of-the-art machine learning technology to transform optic-fibers into accurate acoustic sensors. The sensor data is used to produce accurate wind measurements for our customers in the power transmission industry. Those wind predictions are central to generating Real-Time Thermal Rating (RTTR), allowing them to maximize power-grid load without compromising safety and infrastructure integrity.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to own and lead the DLR domain in the cloud group. The ideal candidate is a hands-on coder who loves elegant solutions, with a knack for hybrid (cloud & on-prem) complex system architecture and platform engineering.

You must be hands-on, self-driven, responsible and passionate.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a top notch SW engineer, harnessing your coding and architectural skills, as well as researching skills across the entire stack. You are expected to be hand-on (>50%), set and maintain coding standards, as well as communicate your plans and ideas via technical documentation and design diagrams.
  • You will partner with an internal architect and lead an outsourced team of software engineers to drive the project and technology stack.
  • Work closely with PMs and data analysts, set and foster technical standards, and maintain excellent technical standards for all components involved.
  • Design, make technical decisions, own code, plan and implement features for the system. Work within complex constraints and a variety of technologies. The restructuring of the system must be forward facing, setting the technology, tools and design as a robust, long-term, core part of our system.
Requirements:

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS in software engineering or equivalent background.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in backend engineering (significant Python experience).
  • Broad understanding of complex and multi-component systems – experience with inter-component messaging, multiple DBs, micro-services, scaling considerations.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Experience and solid knowledge of Docker, containerization technologies and Kubernetes.
  • 3+ years of platform/cloud engineering and working with cloud infrastructure (AWS advantage).
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment, where adaptability and hands-on execution are key.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with different teams and functions within the company.

Advantages:

  • Experience supporting machine learning pipelines and deploying ML models to production environments.
  • Experience with data engineering tools, pipelines, unstructured data, and high throughput data systems.
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, GCP Functions, or Azure Functions.
  • Experience working with or for national/critical infrastructure companies; power, oil and gas, water utilities
